Using Throom Targets is simple, and with a little timber you can make some easy to use stands to attach the targets to.
Using Alpha Brackets.
The Alpha Brackets use what they call 2 by 4s in America. But they’re not quite 2” by 4” in the old measurements. My local hardware store sells 9cm by 3.5cm pine, its cheap, about $5.50 for a 2.4m length, shave the 9cm down to 8.5cm on the ends and they fit perfectly into the Alpha Brackets, which are actually 8.5cm by 3.5cm inside measurement. For the legs, I used 1.5m lengths, which raised the targets up almost to my eye level. Just make sure that your rounds will go into what-ever back-stop you are using, and not over it or into the ground.
Attach your BounceBack, KD-Pivot or Hang Tuff targets to the horizontal piece
and you’re set to go.
Pepper Popper bases are easy to make.
For the 22” poppers, I used some 1.9cm thick by 13.5cm X 52cm for the base and 9cm X 3.5cm pine for the cross pieces. Attach the popper pivot base to the pine and you’re done.
For the 42” poppers, I used 1.9cm thick by 22cm X 88cm for the base and again, 9cm by 3.5cm pine for the cross pieces. Add the popper pivot base and that’s it.
A box of 40mm screws and a saw are all you need to put the popper bases together. For the bases, I used dressed pine because it was almost the right size that I needed, but you could probably find something cheaper.
The Dueling Tree is pretty simple to make too.
For the base pieces, I used 9cm by 3.5cm pine.
The upright is 9cm by 4.5cm (extra width is to cover the target bases).
The front to rear pieces of the base are 80cm long, the spacers are off-cuts
from the upright.
The cross pieces are 33cm wide at the rear and 100cm wide at the front.
The upright is 173cm high, which gives me enough room for 8 targets (although mine could be a little closer together, which would reduce the height a bit).
I used a piece of threaded rod for the upright to pivot on, and a turnbuckle and hooks to adjust the forward angle of it, this stops the targets bouncing back once hit. Throom Targets are working on a new Dueling Tree bracket which should fix this problem. They should be available soon.
The Throom guys have a Dueling Tree design too, which is the plain pine one.
You can see in my photos that I stained the timber to dress it up a bit.
These were made for Display only, so I wanted them to look a bit flash.
